Self Reflection

Looking back at last year and starting your second year at university, how do you feel?

When I look back at last year, I don’t see any work that I think it worthy of being in my portfolio. I found that last year I did a lot of work but it was done in a rush at the end of project deadlines, resulting in products that I’m not particularly proud of. The grade I received did disappoint me but it wasn’t a grade that I should be disappointed in I just expect better of myself, so I have decided that this year I am going to make sure I am on top of everything and ahead if possible. I don’t want to leave everything to the last minute and rush to get some designs done. I want to develop more as a designer and pick up some new techniques and skills to show in my portfolio ready for placement next year.

What have you learnt about yourself?

After last year and starting this year I have learnt that I tend to leave thing to the last minute before I see them as serious, however this year I will not let myself do this. I want to have some good outcomes from my briefs. I have also learnt that I get stressed very easily and I worry a lot. This has to be something I can help by keeping up with everything, the second work starts to pile up I start to worry and I’m not going to let that happen.

What would you like to improve this year?

I am able t use all CCS software like InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator to a good standard however I would like to improve my Photoshop skills, its a program that I never liked therefor avoided for years. I’ve being using it now for 2 years and I’m getting a lot better. I will never know everything but I can do the basics and some good techniques that I am able to use to enhance my design work, however photo manipulation is not my strong point.

What concerns you for the coming year?

My biggest concern is finding a placement, due to not going to an art collage I don’t have a broad portfolio of work and this is a step I regret, however stepping up my game and working harder will result in my portfolio maybe not being big but having good quality work. I also worry that trying to find a placement and do portfolio work as well as keeping up with university work will be difficult.
