Seminars- Analysis
For todays seminar we were asked to bring in a piece of text consisting of 200 words. The text had to relating to our current brief 'collide' and its 3 ideas of happiness, future self and the digital age. The text I brought in was how decisions in the human brain were not made through logic but through emotions. The reason I brought this study in was that my idea was about how we determine our own destiny through the decisions we make. This inks to the milestones we choose to have and the time we choose to have them. However the decisions may not be logical but can be made through emotions and I found this an interesting concept because people may not think this as being true.
We were asked to analyse our texts with parts that related to future self, happiness and digital age. To get other perspectives we were asked to pas our text around each other and we annotated them in turn, gathering a various selection of ideas.
My findings on reading my own text were about how if emotions determine what we decide, then maybe when were happy good decisions are made and when sad, bad decisions are made. All determine our future self. The link to the digital age that this text had written by another student was the idea that the digital age has changed our actions, our decisions and our destiny, it may not be something you think about but it defiantly how changed how we act.

Rob had given out a few selections of text from himself and it was our job to identify the links. The text is a child telling us about what his mother told him when he was younger. It relates to the future self because his mum is giving him advice on how to be a batter future self and be happier. She’s saying the journey is more important than the destination so enjoy it while you can.
I really like this text, its showing the relationship the two have and how his mum wants him to be happy in the future, its an emotional piece and it really works well with the brief, its given me some good ideas on my future self and where I could go with it.

Again another one from someone in the group was about print and web based products, a short text but it really shows the difference between digital age and how it’s evolved. It’s saying that print seems finished and satisfactory, the digital age has brought web based products, something that never seems finished, can always be added to and this gives an unsatisfying feel. I think the text is right, the web is something that is constantly changing in the digital age and print is slowly getting smaller, however I think print can now be evolved through the new technology’s, using different inks, platforms etc...

This was another one given to us by Rob, initially I didn’t understand the text until it was broken down, its about stimulating images and the quote at the end gave it away. 'The spectacle is not a collection of images, but a social relation among people, mediated (Shown) by the images'. The quote said to me that images are used in all ways not, not just black and white photos or just taken on a phone, but they are now profile pictures on social media, thee images aren’t just a spectacle of a collection but instead they show your relationship with other people, humans. The images are just the way these things are shown to people. In Jerusalem, pictures are placed on grave stones, showing the lost person, however there is now a new thing where the images use on their social sites are getting used, not the ones the family pick from the box any more but the one that person chose to represent themself to the media as.
an interesting idea that seems eerie to me, I think it should go back to family photos, but that’s something that the digital age is changing.
