Physical Objects Research for Collide

As part of our brief ‘Collide’ we are required to produce a physical piece of design as well as a digital piece. I don’t usually make a physical piece as a designer, I’m very print and web based, therefore this is going to be something new for me. I wanted to have a look at some physical design by other people to see what kind of things you can do with design and how far you can go. I’m hoping that their will be no boundaries on this brief and I can make whatever I want, within reason, this will make the project a lot more fun. But I’m very interested to see what boundaries other people have pushed and how big they have made physical objects.
The first thing I saw was again type but it was on a huge scale, as shown by the man stood next to it. A designer had made giant 3D letters to make a message and placed in in a town centre. I like how it’s big and bold, their the boundaries I wanted to find, not just books or posters, I wanted to find something different. I may make a book however if I do I want it to be special, and personalised something really different to what you would normally see, I don’t want a book printed by professionals and touched to perfection, the brief is about us and our personality and I want to show that.

Something else I came across was this amazing display of d human sized info graphics. I have never seen anything like this. The idea of info graphics can be quite boring and tedious but making human sized versions that can be interactive and fun. That’s something that would be great to make physically and show at an exhibition.
