Analogue Communique 3D: Session 2
For the first week of creating physical type I decided to try out a series of small ideas, for example using food. Although I did a bread type that was simple I decided when using chocolate I should try something different. I had my reservations on whether this technique would work, but I decided to give it a go...
Below is the video of me cutting out the word 'CHOC' in chocolate and melting it using hot water. I didn't realise the chocolate would break up when cut into so that as a problem I had to encounter, to do this I just placed the pieces together to create the letters, although I had hoped I would get solid shapes making the effect look better, this then created a problem when I wanted to melt the letters. As soon as I poured on the water the letters split apart and the ruined the Types structure, however the use of water was a mistake I should have melted it over a stove, something less harsh that may have took longer but worked a lot better so you could actually see the chocolate melting.
I have added a photo of what the word looked like before I melted it, although it didn't work well and its not something I want to develop, I'm glad I did it because it made me see the flaws I have to think about when creating physical type and making it do things in interesting ways. As an initial experiment I think it was a learning curve for me.
